5 Techniques to Strengthen your Intuition
Feb 28, 2022
We’re all born with the 5 physical senses, as well as the 6th sense of intuition. Most people think the 6th sense is all about talking to people who have passed (thanks to Hollywood), but it’s our intuition: an instinctive awareness that gives us a gut feeling about something or someone. You’ll also find it in the animal kingdom as a way for animals to stay safe and keep predators at bay.
When we have important life questions or decisions to make we often turn to other people or look outside of ourselves. We’ll spend hours Googling something, asking friends and family for advice, or reading books about it…but we neglect the most important authority: our intuition and higher self. Our subconscious mind is all we truly need when contemplating a move in the right direction. If you learn how to quiet your monkey brain, embrace the silence, and go within: you’ll find the answers you’re seeking. This isn’t just for people who consider themselves “psychic,” it's for everyone.
If you’re not convinced, let me show you some examples: Have you ever thought about an old friend from high school and then, out of the blue, your phone rings…and it’s them? Or have you felt like someone is watching you, only to turn around and see someone in the distance staring at you?
This is your intuition at work! Just like any other muscle, your intuition needs to be strengthened. Below are five tips on how to build this muscle and use it to make more aligned decisions.
- Pay attention to when your intuition is speaking.
Before you can become an intuition pro, you need to be able to recognize when it’s speaking to you and understand it shows up in different ways.
Typically it won’t be demanding or loud…it’ll be subtle and even surprising. When my intuition speaks to me, I often find myself thinking: “Huh…I never thought of that before” and being impressed with the suggestion. That’s how I know it’s coming from a “higher” place. Sometimes I’ll even have a “conversation” with my intuition to find out more and dig deeper, but this is after over several decades of strengthening and typically when I’m in a very deep state of relaxation.
Here are other ways messages will show up:
- Images in the mind
- Physical sensations (goosebumps, a weird taste in the mouth, an upset stomach)
- Emotions (feelings of confusion or uneasiness when being steered away from something “wrong”…or feelings of peace when being guided toward the right path)
- Deep sense of knowing (something you just “know” even without it making sense)
- Use meditation to strengthen your intuition.
Your best ideas will come to you out of the blue or when you’re in deep meditation. Therefore, you need to learn how to create a regular meditation practice because it’ll clear your mind of distractions, allowing the messages to come through.
I teach my students to have one longer period of meditation practice once per day (anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes), along with 2 to 3 shorter periods of mindfulness (about 2 minutes each). If you're just starting out, begin with 10 minutes of silent or chanting meditation each day. If you need help with this, check out my M3 Mastery Life Coaching program where I teach my students how to incorporate mindfulness, mental fitness, and manifestation into their lives.
- Devote time to each day to ask questions, listen to your intuition, and capture the answers.
If you can, I would take a short “time out” a few times per day to just tune in and find out if there’s anything you need to pay attention to. You can do this by utilizing one of my PQ reps (follow me on Instagram and I teach these Live every Wednesday).
As an example: close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and rub your hands together. Just focus on the sensation of your hands for about 60 seconds (minimum).
You can also try a shamanic practice I teach called “Golden Bubble.” Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, then put your hands in prayer position. On an inhale, keep your hands in prayer position and move your hands up until they’re above your head. Then turn your palms out and bring them down as if you’re forming a bubble. Watch it on my YouTube channel here.
Once you’re feeling relaxed and ready to receive higher wisdom, listen or ask questions. If you’re trying to make an important decision, definitely do this several times per day to get clarity.
Make sure to journal anything that comes through. Research shows that intuitive insights not written down within 37 seconds will likely not be recalled ever again. Crazy, right? Therefore, writing in your journal is a very effective way to capture your intuition and wisdom. If you do this for at least 5 to 10 minutes per day, you’ll be amazed at what starts to come through.
- Take aligned action quickly.
The Universe and spiritual world tend to reward those who take aligned action quickly. When you begin listening to your intuition and acting on it, the relationship you have with your higher self will begin to strengthen and the channel between your subconscious mind and your conscious mind will widen. This allows for more intuitive hits that are easier for you to hear and act on.
And in the world of manifestation: when you write it out in your journal and then act on it, you are telling your RAS (Reticular Activating System) that it’s important to you, which will help you, as well.
- Have faith, practice gratitude, and trust your intuition.
The more you practice and strengthen your intuition, the more trust you’ll have in yourself and the process. The more you trust in yourself and your intuition, the greater your results will be.
Whatever your goal might be (solving issues faster, making better decisions, or creating the best possible life), you’ll get there faster when you have faith in your higher self and intuition. The more you do it, the easier it will become.
Make sure you take some time to capture your “wins” in your journal, as well. I like to practice gratitude first thing in the morning and write out a page of everything I’m grateful for (or even just lay in bed, thinking about it in my head). Having a high-vibe, gratitude attitude will naturally attract more things to be grateful for.
I know this is a lot easier said than done, especially after a lifetime of second-guessing yourself, trusting others more than yourself, and making “bad” decisions. But this is an opportunity for you to create a strong and healthy connection with your intuition and higher self.
